Oaklands School – Science Laboratories - Brookhouse
Oaklands School required the refurbishment of two of their Science Laboratories to accommodate their current and future needs.
This was going to require a completely new layout of each room as the current room plans were not working well, and a more systematised layout was desperately needed so that the pupils were not so spread out.
The new design needed to accommodate the required amount of pupils at any one time whilst giving them enough space to learn effectively. The school required a modern look and feel and an improved environment suitable for science teaching.
Oaklands had unfortunately missed the cut-off for summer work, however they could not wait until the next Summer holidays.

How Brookhouse refurbished the science laboratories of Oaklands School
Brookhouse created 3D designs with stylish ‘crescent-shaped work benches for both Labs. The clever shape ensured great positioning for students during lessons so that everyone had good views of the teacher’s interactive screen.
New perimeter workstations with sinks, water, gas taps and double sockets were an essential part of the design. The light grey and white colour scheme helped to provide the right clean and clinical environment for a laboratory – stylish and simplistic.
In order to complete the project as soon as possible, Brookhouse started work towards the end Summer holidays to complete the first fix electrical and plumbing works which required access to other classrooms, and then completed the works during term time using the Brookhouse term time working methodology.
Oaklands School were delighted with the results, which ensured that the Science Laboratories are future-proofed for the next generations of students.

Every project starts with a detailed discovery meeting and (where required) a 3D site scan. This enables the capture of precise measurements and existing conditions - removing guesswork and reducing future rework.
2. Design Brief Workshop

3. Space Planning & 2D Layouts
Our in-house design team produces 2D plans with up to three revisions, ensuring the layout is functional and fully compliant with educational or commercial standards.
4. Mood Boards & Finishes Selection
We propose tailored finishes and materials in a dedicated mood board considering durability, hygiene, aesthetics, and future maintenance - all aligned to your brand or building identity.
5. 3D Visuals & Walkthroughs
Using Autodesk Revit and 3D modelling, we provide sketches, renders, and even virtual walkthroughs (where required) - helping you visualise the finished space and avoid late-stage surprises.
6. Furniture & Specification Schedule
You receive a full FF&E specification and product schedule covering fitted joinery, loose furniture, and specialist equipment. This is so you know exactly what you’re getting, and where.
7. Full Fit-Out & Project Delivery
Once approved, we manufacture and install everything from flooring and ceilings to plumbing, furniture and final decoration. We deliver a complete turnkey space with no need for third parties.
8. Handover & Ongoing Support
After completion, we conduct a full handover and walkthrough, with warranty support and optional aftercare packages available. Your space is ready from day one - and supported long after.
